Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981
This legislation sets out employers duties to provide adequate first aid facilities.
First Aid is defined as:
Treatment for the purpose of preserving life and minimizing the consequences of injury and illness until medical help is obtained
Or
Treatment of minor injuries which would otherwise receive no treatment or which do not need treatment by a medical practitioner or nurse.
Regulation 3
This section outlines what an employer should provide or ensure they are provided
- Adequate and appropriate facilities and equipment
- Qualified first aiders to render first aid
- An appointed person, being someone to charge of situations as well as first equipment and facilities
Regulation 4
This outlines the importance of all employees being aware of the provisions that have been made available to them
Regulation 5
This outlines guidance for the self employed, ensuring that they have adequate first aid provisions to be able to treat themselves if possible
