1.Do all of you employee’s have employment contracts??

Yes / No

2. Do you have have an employee handbook detailing all policies and company guidelines?

Yes / No

Yes - It is important that all information is regularly reviewed and that all employees are aware of any updated policies and how they can affect them. Click here for an example

No - An employee handbook is an effective method of communicating to your employees what is expected of them and the procedures in place so that employee is aware of what could happen in a particular situation i.e. inappropriate internet usage. 3. Do you keep accurate employee records and do they comply with the data protection act?

Yes / No

Yes – It is important to remember that all employees are entitled to view all information held on them and should place a written request if wishing to view details held. All information should be kept securely and only authorised personnel should be allowed access. Click Here for details

No - Upon registering you will be able to set up your own personalised database allowing to keep all information about your employees up to date and using SSL all your information will be kept secure complying with all area’s of the data protection Act. 4. Do you have standardised letters to cover a variety of situations? (i.e. disciplinary, acceptance of resignation, offer letter etc..)

Yes / No

5. Do you employ a Human Resource Manager?

Yes / No

Yes - If your company can sustain this position it can be incredibly beneficial to your business and your workforce, it can also provide an impartial person for employee’s to speak to and often improve the channels of communication throughout the organisation.

6. Do you organise you training ‘in house’?

Training can be delivered in a number of ways and it is important that a record of all training is kept so that employee’s progress can be monitored.

No - Sometimes depending on the size of the company it is more effective to outsource your training to outside agencies (some funded).
